The Healthcare & Science business of Thomson Reuters provides intelligent information to better manage the cost and quality of healthcare and accelerate scientific research and innovation.
The position is responsible for the design, programming, and development of algorithms and data models (using statistical analyses) for detecting Medicaid waste, fraud and abuse. The position provides data mining and analytic consulting services for a team operating under a federal contract, and will:
- Prepare algorithm logic to identify potential Medicaid overpayments.
- Code and run programs to identify potential errors in claims payment, and calculates estimated overpayments.
- Conduct data integrity research and/or develop data integrity programs.
- Collaborate with colleagues on algorithm development and perform outreach to government agencies and subject matter experts to obtain information for developing algorithms.
- Draft reports and analyses regarding healthcare data and information.
- Conduct quality assurance of all individual work products produced (including code developed) and those of peers.
- Identify opportunities for the creation of algorithms and data models to detect incorrect or fraudulent Medicaid billings.
- Execute task leadership and sub-task management on small to mid-size projects; complete assignments on time.
- Interact with clients in a professional manner and respond quickly to client requests.
- Interact with project team in a collegial and professional manner.
- Help foster teamwork to complete designated tasks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, healthcare or an analytical field (i.e., Information Systems, Public Health Administration, Statistics, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, etc.); Master’s/graduate degree or degrees in both healthcare and analytics are pluses.
- 3-5 years of SAS programming experience required. SAS experience should include:

- Base/SAS;
- Data Step Programming;
- Merge Statement, in= option;
- Proc SQL, Proc Sort, Proc Report, Proc Print, ODS System;
- First.x and Last.x statements; and
- Proc Means, Proc Freq, Proc Univariate.
- Experience with SQL is required.
- Experience with Oracle Data Miner (and other Oracle statistics and analytics programs) and Oracle databases is a plus.
- Experience with healthcare claims is required, and experience with Medicaid data/claims is preferred.
- General statistical analysis knowledge and/or experience is strongly preferred; experience in applying health analysis methods and measures utilizing basic statistical methods is a plus.
- Strong quantitative, problem-solving, and computer skills.
- Proven task management skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- 3+ years of experience utilizing information technology systems (i.e., healthcare claims databases, etc.) to retrieve and examine healthcare claims data.
- Excellent writing and oral presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to conceptualize client business problems and design analytic projects to address these problems.
- Extreme attention to detail.
- Experience with fraud and abuse data mining and analysis.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

- Review Medicaid claims data to identify claims that are: (1) in violation of applicable Medicaid policy; or (2) are otherwise incorrect.
- Review the design and development of algorithms to identify ways to detect more incorrect and/or fraudulent Medicaid claims and remove claims which are allowable under Medicaid policy from the algorithm’s results.
- Draft reports and analyses regarding healthcare data and information.

- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or an analytical field (i.e., Public Health Administration, Statistics, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Psychology, Sociology, etc.). Degrees in both healthcare and analytics are a plus.
- 2 years of experience in quality assurance practices and procedures.
- 3 years of experience working with healthcare information.
- 3 years of direct Medicaid experience (either working for a Medicaid agency or working with a company or healthcare provider on the correct coding and billing of Medicaid claims and adherence to Medicaid policy).
- 3+ years of experience examining healthcare claims.
- Extreme attention to detail.
- Proven task management skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- 3+ years of experience utilizing information technology systems (i.e., healthcare claims databases, etc.) to retrieve and examine healthcare claims data.
- Excellent writing and oral presentation skills.
